Bruce is a computer generated human-figure that is used to educate participants about the musculo-skeletal system. and the model can be animated to visually demonstrate the underlying musculo-skeletal interactions that pertain to movements.
The model itself is derived from the Ultimate Human project which is, quite simply, the most accurate computer model of the human musculo-skeletal system ever produced. Bruce is a slightly simplified version of the Ultimate Human that is designed with animation in mind. What this means is that Bruce is an accurate simulation of the way humans move and how the muscles and skeleton produce that movement, allowing the exact mechanics of various movements to be shown.
Bruce is more than an interesting side-show; he is a valuable learning and motivation tool. He allows trainees to see for themselves the mechanics involved in unhealthy movement, which means, rather than just being told that such a movement is unhealthy, trainees can see and understand why it is so. This leads to a real and fundamental understanding of the situation, and more motivation to fix the problem as it is now a firmly practical issue, not a merely theoretical one.
